Deputy Marine Officer/Deputy Harbour Master


Salary £34,682 – £42,841


Applications are invited for the position of Deputy Marine Officer/Deputy Harbour Master for the Falkland Islands
Government. As Deputy Marine Officer you will be involved in a broad range of policy development, operational
tasks and regulatory functions applicable to the maritime and fishing industry in the Falklands. As Deputy Harbour
Master you will be accountable through the Harbour Master for the safe and effective operation of Port Stanley and
adjacent associated harbour areas.


Following a recent review of maritime legislation the Falkland Islands Government will be implementing a
modernisation programme to its maritime operations including the introduction of a Maritime Authority. The Deputy
Marine Officer/Deputy Harbour Master will be a vital part of this modernisation programme and the position is seen
as an exciting opportunity to be part of and contribute to the updating of the maritime administration of the
Falkland Islands.


The successful candidate will be required to hold an STCW 95 II/2 Chief Mates Certificate with at least 5 years
relevant experience in marine operations. Experience and knowledge of the maritime regulatory framework
applicable to Red Ensign Vessels will be seen as an advantage alongside previous work within a
Harbour Administration or Authority.


The appointment will be for a two year contract. In addition to salary, benefits include competitive tax rates, eligibility
to a 25% taxable gratuity on basic salary upon completion of contract, a relocation grant, flights at the beginning
and end of contract plus six weeks annual leave including return flights, to the country of recruitment, for the
successful applicant and his/her qualifying accompanying dependants.
