The Illex season was over on 15 June. The total catch of Illex by jiggers was 64,406 t.

The CFL Hunter arrived at FIPASS on 26 May 2017. A religious blessing of the ship will take place on Sunday 28th May.

We would like to welcome Thomas Farrugia, our new Stock Assessment Scientist.

Haseeb, Brendon, and Thomas are heading out to sea in June for a 21 day toothfish tagging trip and to conduct a hook trial on board CFL’s Hunter. The trip will be the Hunter’s inaugural fishing trip and will provide an opportunity to: (1) assess the efficacy of different hook sizes and shapes in reducing bycatch in the toothfish longlining industry, and (2) continue with the toothfish tagging scheme initiated in 2016 to provide data on movement and growth of toothfish in the FICZ and FOCZ.

The total catch for the first Loligo season 2017 was 40,345t.

The next FFLG meeting will be held in the Fisheries Department meeting room on Wednesday,12th July 2017 at 14:00.
