Rodent Dectection Dogs

RPD1

RPD2

Recently, a rat detection dog was brought into school by Ross James (Bio Security). It was explained to the Infants how the dogs work. The dogs are taken on to ships to scent out any rodents to prevent the spread onto islands which are rat and mouse free. The children in Year 2 recognised the photos of Kidney Island and were able to link the importance of rodent control with the rare species which are found on Kidney Island.

Pilot Whale Visit At IJS

Thursday 6th April 2017

Conservation brought a dead pilot whale into school this morning! They thought it was a year or so old and cause of death unknown.  Andy Stanworth spoke to the children about whales in general, anatomy and what they feed on.
