WORKING CREDIT SCHEME

 

 

 

WHO IS THE SCHEME FOR

 

The Working Credit Scheme is designed to assist households who are in employment and earning below the tax threshold, with the purpose of encouraging individuals into the workplace.

 

The following eligibility criteria are applicable:

 

· Persons must be aged 16 or over

 

· Persons must be a resident of the Falkland Islands for tax purposes

 

· At least 25 hours per week must be worked, either on an employed or self-employed basis per household applying

 

· Household savings must not exceed £16,336

 

· Household earnings must not be above the tax threshold

 

The Working Credit Scheme is reviewed each year, and all persons in receipt of working credits must re-apply in December to continue to receive benefit from January for the following year.

 

Individuals who miss the December deadline can still apply throughout the year, but the credit will only be back dated for one month prior to their application. For example if an individual applied in July, the credit can be backdated to June.

CHILDCARE CREDIT SCHEME

 

 

 

WHO IS THE SCHEME FOR

 

The Childcare Credit Scheme is designed to assist households who are in employment and earning below the tax threshold, by providing a contribution towards childcare, with the purpose of encouraging individuals into the workplace. This scheme provides a contribution towards childcare for those children not yet in full time education i.e. under 5 years of age.

 

The following eligibility criteria are applicable:

 

· Persons must be aged 16 or over

 

· Persons must be a resident of the Falkland Islands for tax purposes

 

· At least 25 hours per week must be worked, either on an employed or self-employed basis per household applying

 

· Household savings must not exceed £16,336

 

· There must be a child of 5 years of age or under residing in the property

 

· Household earnings must not be above the tax threshold

 

The Childcare Credit Scheme is reviewed each year, and all persons in receipt of childcare credits must re-apply in December to continue to receive benefit from January for the following year. WHAT TO DO IF YOU STILL REQUIRE FINANCIAL SUPPORT

 

For those who are still in need of financial support the following option may be considered:

 

· Welfare support

 

o If your circumstances are still very difficult after receiving the Working Credit and/or the Childcare Credit you may also be entitled to receive a welfare payment.
