On Friday 4th December, the Falkland Islands Civil Aviation Department had an advert published in the Penguin News to raise further awareness of the rules and laws concerning the use of Small Unmanned Aircraft (i.e. UAVS, drones, etc.). It is incredibly important that when operating these aircraft, you take caution, as you are responsible for each flight.

Remember:

  • You must keep the drone within your eyesight AT ALL times.
  • You are LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE for the safe conduct of every flight.
  • You MUST NOT fly your drone within 50m of a person, vehicle or building that is not under your control.
  • STAY WELL CLEAR OF ALL AIRPORTS/AIRSTRIPS
  • If you intend to use a drone for commerical use, you must first apply for 'Permission' from the Director of Civil Aviation in the Falkland Islands. (email: bwilks.civilaviation@sec.gov.fk)
