In the 2014 Island Plan there is a commitment to “agree and progress a Waste Management Strategy for the Islands for the next 10-15 years, and reduce the proportion of waste sent to landfill”.

To push this important agenda forward an interim Waste Management Action Plan was produced and the position of Waste Management Coordinator (WMC) created to implement it.

The Waste Management Action Plan 2015 – 2017 lists potential action areas for the WMC to focus on and ways to drive those actions forward. The plan is by no means exhaustive but gives indication on the direction waste management should move towards.

The WMC is responsible for working with relevant FIG departments and external partners (including the private sector) to identify opportunities for improved waste management (delivering both environmental and economic benefits), and to facilitate their implementation (including contributing to the submission of funding applications where relevant). The role supports the Rural Development Strategy in relation to waste management in Camp.
