Jolien Claes | Fisheries Observer
Background & Qualifications
I completed the master program of Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management given at the universities of Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp (Belgium). During my studies, I volunteered for the university of Ghent and joined several of their sampling campaigns in the North Sea. For my thesis I worked on the benthic biodiversity of the Bransfield Strait and also here, I got the opportunity to do my own fieldwork in the Bransfield Strait as part of the ANTARXXVII sampling campaign organized by the Peruvian Government.
My main fields of interest is the integration of economic and ecological interests through management and advancements in fishing practices. Especially in vulnerable ecosystems like the deep sea and the Polar Regions.
