Public Works Department - Plant Operator/Handyperson - Highways

Closing Date: 19 March 2021

Applications are invited to fill a vacancy for a Plant Operator/Handyperson within the PWD Highways Section. Candidates must have a current valid HGV licence and previous experience of operating heavy plant & equipment.  Must be willing to live and work away from home on East & West Falkland for extended periods as directed by the immediate supervisor and must be available for on-call salt patrol during the winter months.

Department of Health & Social Services - Patient Information Clerk

To assist in the maintenance and management of patient information records, in order to ensure that data is up to date, accurate and valid. You will also be required to provide an efficient professional Reception and Administrative service to patients within Primary and Secondary Care. Essential criteria; GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above (or equivalent), a relevant IT qualification or at least three years’ experience of working with Database systems and at least three years’ relevant administrative and clerical experience.

Treasury Department - Taxation Data Clerk

Responsible for reception duties, recording data and other general administration tasks in order to provide support in a busy and dynamic office environment.  Essential criteria; basic computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office packages, good communication skills, a polite manner, a mature attitude, good attention to detail and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.  Knowledge of Government, tax and accountancy procedures would be an advantage, but is not essential, as training will be given to the successful candidate.  

Flexible working hours may be considered with salary pro-rated for hours worked.

Development & Commercial Department - Building Advisor - Planning & Building Services

To administer, promote and advance the Islands building control service and be the primary point of contact for professional advice and guidance for all matters pertaining to the Building Regulations.  Applicants must have a recognised professional building qualification and be a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and/or The Association of Building Engineers (or equivalent), along with at least two years’ post-qualification experience.

Health & Social Services - Theatre Manager

To manage the staff, equipment and resources in the operating theatre and intensive care environment to ensure the optimum effectiveness and efficiency, including liaison with other nursing areas and the continuation of the nursing care within the wider Health and Social Services Team.  Essential criteria include 7 years’ experience as a Theatre Practitioner working with the surgeon and anaesthetist.  Essential criteria includes; a Degree (or equivalent) enabling current qualification with NMC or HPC.

Health & Social Services - Practice Nurse

To promote good health and provide a high quality of nursing in support of primary care (especially GP services).  The successful applicant will provide and manage their own case load and nurse-led clinics whilst playing an active role in developing primary care in the Falkland Islands.  Essential criteria includes; registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK and a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience.

Health & Social Services - Midwife

Acting as an autonomous practitioner to provide midwifery to women in the Falkland Islands in the ante, intra and postpartum period including pre-conceptual care and support along with the Health Visitor in the subsequent months.  Applicants should have current registration with the NMC or equivalent and 5 years’ post registration experience; applicants would also be required to provide nursing care in other departments of the hospital as required.

Public Works Department - Plant Operator/Stand-In Filtration Plant Operator

This is a dual role encompassing the duties of Plant Operator and Filtration Plant Operator assisting in the installation and repairs of water mains in Stanley. Duties include the repair, monitoring and control of laboratory testing procedures to ensure that the clarification, filtration and chemical residue processes are all normal. Applicants must have an NVQ Level 3 in Water Treatment (or the ability to successfully obtain one within one year of appointment) and a current valid HGV driving licence.
