The first phase of the strategy has been launched to raise public awareness of the ways the community can reduce the waste they produce. Local retail services such as the Seafish Chandlery has introduced initiatives to support the campaign by replacing plastic bags with cardboard bags. This effort has been made to limit the amount of plastic bags which are thrown away and fight against plastic pollution.

More recently, in conjunction with the Public Works Department, glass recycling units have been installed at key locations around Stanley to encourage greater recycling.
