On 24th April 2019 the Falkland Islands Government authorised detailed design and cost planning for a new Multi-Purpose All-Weather Sport Facility in Stanley, following public consultation that took place from January to March 2019. (Exco 41/19). In addition to consulting with local sporting bodies, clubs and associations, FIG launched a public survey in February 2019, which received positive feedback, with a total of 215 responses.

The Falkland Islands Government is proposing to invest some £3 million to build a new multi-purpose all-weather sport facility in Stanley. This budget will provide an indoor sports facility to complement existing activities provided at Stanley Leisure Centre and an outdoor full-size AstroTurf football pitch suitable for general training activities. A provision of a running track and other sporting activities are being considered, subject to the availability of funding.

FIG has consulted with all local sporting bodies, clubs and associations on these proposals and has received very positive feedback. FIG is now seeking input from the public on these proposals. We want to know what people think about the plans for the new sports facility and what your main priorities for the new facility would be. We particularly would like to know what other facilities the space could support, including those that are not directly sports-related.
